QUEER AND GENDER AFFIRMATIVE THERAPY

Are you looking to explore your sexual orientation, gender, and intersecting identities? Or do you have a loved one who has recently come out to you whom you want to support?

Experience of gender and sexuality can change throughout one’s lifespan. You may find that who you’re attracted to now looks different than it once did. It may feel confusing that you’re sexually attracted to one gender and romantically to another. You may struggle with fitting in a particular box. Labels can be helpful and can also feel overwhelming: gay, lesbian, asexual, bisexual, pansexual, agender, transgender, transwoman, transmasculine, cisgender, non-binany, two spirit, questioning, queer, and many more.

I offer space to support you on that journey. I realize that everyone’s experience of gender and sexuality are individual and I see my role as supporting you to embrace an authentic embodied experience that feels right for you personally.

Personally, I am a queer and fluid in my sexuality and gender. I use they/them/theirs and she/her/hers pronouns.

I also recognize that you may have intersecting identities — race, class, ability, religion, ethnicity, culture — that are a part of your process and differ from mine. I have a personal and professional commitment to offer socially just and informed, competent care. I’d also be happy to support you in finding a therapist with similar identities if that would feel like a better fit.

If medical transition is part of your process and you’re in need of a letter for access to gender affirming care, I am part of the Gender Affirming Letter Access Project (GALAP) network, “a group of transgender, nonbinary, and allied mental health clinicians in the U.S. who believe in improving access to letters for clients who are seeking gender-affirming medical care. We resist the harmful practices of gate keeping and believe in an informed consent model where clients can affirm their gender identity without the steep cost of sessions with mental health professionals and reductionist clinical practices. As such, we want to create a movement towards providing free and low-cost letters for gender affirming access to medical care.”

If you’re solely looking for a provider letter, I will offer that session at no cost to you. If I’m not available in the time you’re needing, I’ll refer you to someone else.

Wherever you are on your journey — from just starting to question your sexuality, or coming out, or wanting therapy that’s affirmative to your identity but not focused on it — I’d love to see if it would be a good fit to work together.
